Does watching TV or flipping through a magazine make you feel as if everyone was born with a perfect smile, except you? Actually, an extremely small percentage of individuals have teeth that are perfectly shaped and brilliantly white. Most people who have a perfect smile have had at least some cosmetic dental work done, so you are not alone. Holistic Dental Centers’ offices in both Cary and Cornelius have used porcelain veneers to help many of our patients achieve the smiles of their dreams.
What problems can veneers address?
Veneers can be used to transform a patient’s smile. Some of the common reasons patients request veneers include:
- Some stains cannot be lightened with teeth whitening and porcelain veneers can cover the discoloration, resulting in a brilliant smile.
- When teeth have minor damage such as chips or cracks, but the damage is not severe enough to require dental crowns, veneers can restore the aesthetics of the damaged teeth.
- Some patients have excessive space between their teeth. When it is purely a cosmetic concern and orthodontic treatment isn’t needed, porcelain veneers can close the gap to create a beautiful well-proportioned smile.
This is a short list of what can be addressed with porcelain veneers. Patients who feel their teeth are too large or small come to Holistic Dental Centers to see Dr. McMillan for porcelain veneers. Our patients know they will receive honest information regarding their treatment options and the effects they can have on their health.
Who is a candidate for porcelain veneers?
Patients must have healthy teeth and gums for veneer placement. This is why your doctor will begin by conducting a through oral examination. If any problems such as cavities or gum disease are detected, they will be addressed prior to beginning the veneers process.
Habits such as eating ice, biting fingernails, grinding your teeth or anything else that can result in damage to your natural teeth can damage your new veneers. Your doctor will discuss this with you and may recommend wearing a night guard if you grind your teeth.
