Precision Dental Care with 3D Dental Imaging in Cary, NC
Most people are familiar with the process of getting traditional dental x-rays. While digital technology advances have improved the process for obtaining and using these 2-dimensional images, they are somewhat limited in the information they can provide for diagnostic and treatment planning purposes. That ‘s why we have invested in 3D dental imaging technology at Holistic Dental Centers in Cary and Cornelius, NC. This advanced technology offers many benefits for our patients, providing more accurate and detailed information for diagnostic and treatment planning purposes while reducing the time the scan takes and the radiation you are exposed to while the scan is occurring.
What are the benefits of 3D imaging?
Obtaining a 3D scan of your teeth, jawbone, soft tissues, nerves, muscles, and other orofacial structures provides much greater detail than traditional 2-dimensional x-rays. In fact, each scan takes between 100 and 600 detailed images in just a few seconds! Additionally, 3D imaging enables our dentists to:
- Visualize the entire mouth, as well as neighboring structures such as the sinuses
- Zoom in, manipulate, and annotate the images
- View details of several oral structures that traditional 2D x-rays cannot visualize
- Evaluate the quality and density of your jawbone and strategically plan the placement of dental implants
- Determine the underlying cause for pain that is undiagnosed
- Diagnose root canal problems and plan root canal therapy with precision
- Evaluate the alignment of the teeth and jaw for orthodontic planning purposes
- Plan your cosmetic or restorative dental treatments with greater precision
What should I expect?
The entire process for taking a 3D scan takes just a few minutes. We will ask you to comfortably sit while resting your head on a chin rest to help keep your head still while the scan is taking place. The machine rotates around your head for a few seconds to capture all the necessary images, and then you are done! Our dentists can then pull up your images on the computer for diagnostic or planning purposes. These images can also be a great educational tool because they are able to show you precisely what they see and explain your treatment plan accordingly.
