Did you know that tooth enamel is the hardest substance in the human body? Even so, teeth can be compromised due to decay, disease, or trauma. If a filling is not an option to restore the tooth, you may need to be evaluated for a dental crown. Most dental offices can provide crowns; the difference in Holistic Dental Centers is our state of the art technology, our commitment to our patients, and our desire to place crowns that fit in naturally and seamlessly in your mouth.
Dental crowns are a durable tooth covering that can protect a tooth from further damage or decay. In the past crowns were primarily made of metal. Today, we are able to offer patients porcelain crowns. Porcelain is a biocompatible material that is very similar to tooth enamel. Porcelain is translucent and reflects like similarly to enamel, it is also strong, and can be color matched to existing teeth. The result is a beautiful and natural looking restoration that protects the tooth and restores the appearance of the smile.
Crowns are typically placed in two visits. During the first visit, the damaged portion of the tooth will be removed, while the main portion of the tooth structure is left in place. Impressions are then taken of your mouth. The impressions, along with color selection, are sent to a laboratory for custom fabrication of your crown. A temporary crown is placed in the interim.
Once your permanent crown is ready, you will return to the office to have it placed. The temporary crown will be removed and any final adjustments will be made to your permanent restoration. Once the permanent crown is permanently bonded into place, it will be shined to a beautiful luster.
Crowned teeth look, feel, and function just like natural teeth. You also care for them in the same way, brushing twice and flossing once each day. It is important to stay current on your six month dental visits so our team can check on the condition of your crown and the rest of your teeth.
At Holistic Dental Centers, we are known for beautiful, natural looking crown restorations. If you are in the Raleigh area, and would like to find out more, give us a call to set up an appointment.
