How does it work?
Instead of having treatment done in the dental office, the whitening is performed in the privacy of your own home. We begin with a consultation appointment. The best patients for teeth bleaching services are those who have discoloration of the teeth and are free from dental restorations. This includes:
- Partial dentures
- Dental bridges
- Porcelain veneers
- Dental crowns
These are restorations that are man-made and are initially fabricated to match the color of the patient’s teeth. However, if patients brighten their smiles, it can cause these restorations to look dark. The only way a patient can undergo whitening at this point is if they consider the replacement of these restorations, which can add to the overall cost of the service.
Once patients have decided that teeth whitening is right for them, we work with them to create their custom kit. We take impressions of the dental arches to fabricate trays that fit tightly over the dental arches. Then, we supply professional-strength whitening gels that are used in the trays and worn over the teeth for a certain period each day. Some patients may use less concentrated gels and wear the trays overnight if that is more convenient for them. Dr. Carl McMillan provides patients with instructions on how to use their trays and they can whiten over the course of several weeks. The teeth will be gradually enhanced, and patients will be able to see a shining smile in a short period of time. Patients can continue to whiten until they get the results they want, and then whiten periodically to maintain the appearance of their smile!
