Dental anxiety is very real, and is not something that people can just “overcome.” Dental anxiety can often be so debilitating that it causes patients to completely avoid the dentist and put their oral health at risk in the process. If you have gotten to the point where the mere mention of the dentist’s office has you running, there is a way to get you back in the dental chair.
At Holistic Dental Centers, our first priority is always the health and comfort of our patients. We strive to provide the highest quality dental care in an environment that is relaxing and welcoming. If you are suffering from anxiety, we offer sedation dentistry as a way to calm your nerves and receive necessary dental care.
Dental anxiety can arise for many reasons. Some people fear the unknown, or the potential for multiple, lengthy procedures. Other people have had a bad experience in the past that still haunts them this day. Some people have a sensitive gag reflex that makes them feel vulnerable and uncomfortable. Regardless of the reason, sedation dentistry can address the concern and allow patients to put their oral health and wellbeing as a priority.
Sedation dentistry comes in a variety of forms. Many patients these days are opting for oral conscious sedation. This sedative pill can be used for a variety of visits including regular checkups, restorative or cosmetic procedures, and sometimes even in emergency care.
With oral sedation, we will prescribe an oral medication to be taken prior to arriving at our office for treatment. The level of sedation prescribed will be determined by your level of fear and your impending treatment. You will remain conscious and able to respond to requests the entire time. Patients will need to arrange for transportation to and from treatment with oral sedation. After your procedure, you will have little to no memory of it. Because of this, many patients are able to get to a point where they receive dental care without the need for sedation in the future.
At Holistic Dental Centers, you can rest assured that we take dental fear and anxiety very seriously. We do everything in our power to make your experience positive, and believe that for many patients, the way to do so is with oral sedation. If you are in the Raleigh area and you would like to learn more about oral sedation and take your oral health back into your own hands, call us today to schedule a consultation, we have offices in Cornelius and in Cary.
