It is unfortunate that not all dentists are like Dr. Carl McMillan with the same level of dedication to patients’ overall health and wellbeing. At Holistic Dental Centers in Cary and Cornelius, we are dedicated to patient care and this is reflected in everything we do. We frequently see patients who have had a negative experience in the past and they have been left with dental fear or a phobia. We offer oral sedation for a comfortable stress-free experience for these patients.
Dental fears and phobias can lead to severe dental problems. Some patients will only seek dental care when they have a serious problem, rather than keeping appointments for checkups and professional cleanings. Many of these patients mistakenly view routine appointments as “unnecessary.” In reality, preventive care can save them a considerable amount of time in the dentist’s chair. When a cavity is detected early, a simple filling can typically restore the tooth. When a cavity goes untreated and does significant damage, it is likely a dental crown will be needed to restore the tooth, if it can be saved at all. If the tooth must be extracted, then a fixed dental bridge will be needed to replace it. Both of these procedures require a minimum of two appointments; a dental filling can be completed during the same appointment that the problem is discovered.
With oral sedation, patients can receive all of the preventive and restorative care they need without feeling anxiety or fear. Oral sedation has inaccurately been referred to as “sleep dentistry,” patients are awake and aware, just very relaxed during their dental procedures. They can answer Dr. McMillan’s questions and open or close their mouths when asked to do so. The difference being that the patients do not feel the anxiety they normally would.
You no longer need to fear a trip to the dentist thanks to the benefits of sedation. We have two locations to make it convenient for you to get the dental care you need and the smile you deserve.
