In years past, a dentist’s only concern was your oral health. Patients made appointments if they were experiencing pain or problems with their teeth and gums. The dentist would fill the cavity, treat the gums, or address any other problems and send you on your way. Very little, if any, attention was paid to the underlying causes of your dental issues.
Recently, there have been many studies published that detail the connection between oral health and overall wellbeing. Many non-oral diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and even Alzheimer’s have shown to have ties to dental problems. This has caused many dentists to shift their approach to patient care. The doctors at Holistic Dental Centers, with locations in Cary and Cornelius, are dentists who believe in looking at the body as a whole when treating oral conditions. This approach, commonly referred to as holistic dentistry, takes the time to explore the reasons behind the symptoms. Holistic dentistry is philosophy, not a recognized specialty, and is core to the priorities of our practice.
One of the biggest components of holistic dentistry is the knowledge that the materials used in dental treatments and restorations have a profound impact on the body. We do not believe in the use of mercury or metal fillings. Every procedure is performed with biocompatible and safe materials.
We take great caution to use the least invasive approaches to any restorative or cosmetic care. We believe in a patient-driven approach to treatment and will always consult with you and answer any questions you have on our recommended course of care.
We also believe in the importance of prevention as a vital component to oral health. We will be happy to help you develop an at home oral care routine to help keep your body and your teeth healthy. We recommend patients visit us twice yearly for a cleaning and examination to remain proactive about any potential problems. Addressing dental issues when they are at their earliest stage allows the best opportunity for a conservative treatment plan.
