Young children (under age three)
Good oral hygiene needs to begin early. You can talk to the doctors and they will explain the best way to care for your young child’s teeth. We encourage a visit at the eruption of your child’s first teeth.
Older children
The most common dental problem among children is cavities. Good oral hygiene and routine checkups can reduce their risk of decay. We will help educate you and your child on the best ways to prevent a problem from occurring, but if a cavity does develop, Dr. McMillan can detect it during their checkup and treat it using a mercury-free composite filling.
Adults
Adults are susceptible to cavities as well, but another common dental problem they face is periodontal disease. This condition will affect 70 to 80 percent of adults at some point in their lives. With early detection, Dr. McMillan can minimize the damage and prevent the progression of the disease. When it is untreated, and allowed to progress, it can result in tooth loss. In fact, it is the number one cause of tooth loss in adults.
Adults are often concerned about the appearance of their teeth, Dr. McMillan offers teeth whitening and porcelain veneers in addition to a number of restorative procedures that can improve the appearance of their smiles. Patients’ oral health and the aesthetics of their smiles can benefit from procedures such as porcelain dental crowns and fixed dental bridges.
Older adults
The largest problem facing older patients is tooth loss. Approximately 26 percent of people have lost all of their teeth by the age of 74. Dr. McMillan will help patients keep their natural teeth, and in cases where this is not possible, they offer solutions such as dentures, which are both aesthetically pleasing and help maintain the patients’ oral health.
