Charlotte, NC area patients dealing with lost or extracted natural teeth are welcome to contact the practice of Holistic Dental Centers to learn more about the ways in which they can rejuvenate their smiles and repair the function and beauty of their teeth. Dr. Carl McMillan encourages patients to learn about the solutions used to replace teeth.
There are many options available to patients for repair after natural teeth have been removed or lost through trauma or disease. Dental implants, bridges, and dentures are the three primary solutions. However, there are times in which a bridge for teeth repair is the best way to achieve a fully functioning smile.
Dental implants are expensive and are best for replacing a single tooth or stabilizing full dentures. They are permanent but are a large investment upfront. Dentures, also known as partials, are used to replace one or more teeth within the dental arch and are removable. They are fabricated from metal and acrylics to snap into the smile and place false teeth where appropriate to restore function and beauty. They are economical, but many patients don’t like the idea of a removable apparatus within their smile. Instead, many patients turn to bridges for replacing their missing teeth.
Bridges are ceramic restorations using false teeth (pontics) with dental crowns bonded on each side. These crowns are cemented over the adjacent teeth to support the restoration and hold it in place. The pontic (or pontics) will float close to the gum line and appear as a natural tooth. The only special attention required for dental bridges is to clean underneath the pontics to ensure disease and decay do not become a problem, especially for the surrounding teeth supporting the dental bridge.
Bridges are a great option for many patients seeking a permanent yet affordable solution to tooth loss. Contact Dr. Carl McMillan of Holistic Dental Centers to educate yourself further on the advantages of bridges versus implants and dentures.
