Missing teeth can change the way you look, eat, and speak. You may think that you’re stuck dealing with the gap in your smile because you can’t afford a proper restoration. Residents of Raleigh no longer need to deal with gaping holes in their smile. With the help of Dr. McMillan at the Holistic Dental Centers, missing teeth can be restored through the process of dental bridges.
Bridges are a popular and affordable restoration that many patients choose to replace missing teeth. Bridges can help restore your confidence by bringing your smile back to life. They can also be vital in restoring mouth functionality and the ability to perform tasks such as eating and talking naturally. A dental bridge has two main components: the crowns that fit over the supporting teeth or implants that are on either side of the missing tooth, and the false tooth in between.
During your first visit, the supporting teeth will be prepared by removing a small portion of enamel to allow room for the crown to be placed on top. Impressions are taken to fabricate the false tooth, and crowns. During this period, you will be fitted with a temporary bridge.
In the second visit, the temporary bridge is removed for placement of your permanent bridge. Dr. McMillan will take the time to check for proper fit and make any necessary adjustments to ensure the bridge fits correctly and comfortably. Once the bridge fits properly, it will be permanently cemented into place.
Taking care of your dental bridge is no different from caring for your natural teeth. You will want to make sure to brush at least twice daily and floss at least once each day. It is important that the surrounding teeth stay healthy, as they are still susceptible to disease or decay. Make sure to stay on top of regular dental visits. This allows us to make sure the home dental care is effective and perform professional cleanings, which can remove any built up plaque and tartar.
