The dental crowns process in Raleigh, NC

Restore Teeth, Carl McMillan, DMD, PA

Dental crowns are placed to restore teeth that are cracked, broken, chipped, or misshapen. They are also effectively used for cosmetic modifications in cases where porcelain veneers may not be an option. If you are in the Raleigh area, dental crowns through Holistic Dental Centers can improve the appearance of your smile and protect your teeth.

The first step in the dental crown process is a comprehensive exam and consultation. The doctor will be evaluating the tooth to determine the severity of the issue and determining the appropriate treatment. Many issues, such as small cavities can be corrected with just a filling. Other cavities may appear small but in reality have become very deep and will require a crown.

Once it has been determined that you need a crown, the next step is to prepare the tooth. Impressions will be taken and sent to a dental laboratory for creation of a permanent crown. You will be fitted with a temporary restoration to protect the tooth and maintain functionality while waiting for your permanent crown. Placement will occur on a subsequent appointment.

Once the permanent crown is ready, the doctor will remove the temporary and clean the tooth. The final restoration will be checked for proper fit, alignment, and color. If everything is a perfect fit, he will use a special dental cement to adhere the crown in place.

At Holistic Dental Centers in Raleigh, we take great care in ensuring all of our procedures keep the patients’ overall wellbeing in mind. We are a metal-free facility and all of our dental crowns are made from porcelain, which is a biocompatible material. Porcelain is strong, durable, and has many of the same characteristics as natural tooth enamel. This guarantees our patients will be left with a healthy and natural-looking smile.
